Vladamir and I collaborated and read an article called what Catholic means?
The term Catholic means universal. It is also one of the four marks of the Church. The four marks of the Church are one, holy, catholic, and apostolic. Since Catholic means universal, it implies that the Church is offered to everyone and everyone can be in Union with God and ultimately reach heaven. The Church Fathers are very important because they are the connection between God and man. They offer grace through the Holy Sacraments order for man to reach salvation. They also helped found the Church and helped guide the Church in times of desperation. Ignatius of Antioch says, "Wherever the bishop appears, let the people be there; just as wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church" ((Letter to the Smyrneans 8:2 [A.D. 110]). The quote states that Jesus is always by the Church and guiding it.
